{"id":30211,"date":"2019-09-16T11:53:30","date_gmt":"2019-09-16T11:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.centrobotin.org\/?p=30211"},"modified":"2019-10-10T19:13:03","modified_gmt":"2019-10-10T19:13:03","slug":"the-centro-botin-presents-25-years-of-itinerarios-collecting-practices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.centrobotin.org\/en\/the-centro-botin-presents-25-years-of-itinerarios-collecting-practices\/","title":{"rendered":"THE CENTRO BOT\u00cdN PRESENTS &#8220;COLLECTING PRACTICES. 25 YEARS OF ITINERARIOS&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>The exhibition will bring together a special selection of works by twenty-five outstanding artists, all of whom are former recipients of the Fundaci\u00f3n Bot\u00edn\u2019s Visual Arts Grants, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of <em>Itinerarios<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The show will feature works by Basma Alsharif, David Bestu\u00e9, Javier Arce, Bleda y Rosa, Patricia Esquivias, Adri\u00e0 Juli\u00e0, Leticia Ramos, Fernando S\u00e1nchez Castillo and Teresa Solar, among others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The exhibition will be open to the public on the first floor of the exhibition volume of the Centro Bot\u00edn from 12 October 2019 until 8 November 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year the <strong><em>Itinerarios<\/em><\/strong> series of annual exhibitions showcasing the work of the artists who have benefitted from one of the year\u2019s Fundaci\u00f3n Bot\u00edn Visual Arts Grants celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary, and to mark the occasion the Centro Bot\u00edn is presenting <em>Collecting Practices: 25 years of Itinerarios<\/em>, a fascinating selection of works by twenty-five highly acclaimed artists who have received one of these Bot\u00edn grants. The show will be open to the public from 12 October 2019 until further notice, some time in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This exhibition is testimony to the Fundaci\u00f3n Bot\u00edn\u2019s ongoing commitment to supporting the most contemporary art practice, and bears eloquent witness to how this practice has evolved since the end of the last century,\u2019 writes Benjamin Weil, artistic director of the Centro and curator of the show. Characterized by its considerable formal versatility, the exhibition presents works in a wide range of formats and media, from sculpture and installation to photography and video, as well as various combinations thereof. The common ground is a strong sense of narrative: the process of art-making remains consciously visible in many of these works. More than ever, the artwork itself is the presentation of a process of creative thinking framed in time \u2013 a snapshot of sorts.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the chosen works are from an early stage in the artist\u2019s career, so that part of their interest resides in the way they often prefigure research processes which are still acutely relevant today. At the same time the exhibition reveals the extent to which, over the years, artists have adopted cutting-edge technologies as a new craft practice, augmenting digital images with some handmade element, be it drawing or sculpture, to create scenarios that also use the exhibition space as a stage. \u2018They invite us as visitors to engage with them as the authors of our own experience: their works are surfaces of interpretation, remaining open, to be completed by each visitor\u2019s own understanding,\u2019 Weil notes.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition will feature the work of 26 artists: <strong>Lara Almarcegui<\/strong> (1972), with her <em>Descampados de \u00c1msterdam<\/em>, 1998 \u2013 1999; <strong>Basma Alsharif<\/strong> (Kuwait, 1983) with <em>Cornices of Beirut<\/em>, from 2010; <strong>Leonor Antunes<\/strong> (Portugal, 1972)\u00a0with <em>Random Intersection #14<\/em>, 2017; <strong>Javier Arce<\/strong> (1973), with his series <em>Struth<\/em>, 2007; <strong>Erick Beltr\u00e1n<\/strong>\u00a0 (Mexico, 1974), with <em>Multiplicidad del mundo<\/em>, 2010; <strong>David Bestu\u00e9<\/strong> (1980), with <em>Elementos del pasado. Dos luces<\/em>, 2015, and <em>Elementos del pasado. Trencadissa<\/em>, 2013; <strong>Mar\u00eda Bleda<\/strong> (1969) and <strong>Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Rosa<\/strong> (1970), with four works from his series <em>Origen: Cr\u00e1neo de Gibraltar.
