Desde lo subterráneo (From the Underground), 2017
Cristina Iglesias has designed a sculptural intervention specifically for the setting of the Centro Botín and the Jardines de Pereda, composed of four wells and a pond. These five gray stone structures enclose cast-steel forms that overlap with one another, creating cavities. The work alludes to the subterranean, to what exists beneath the surface in a coastal area: groundwater zones, underground areas saturated with water, pockets of water filled with vegetation and molluscs, life that speaks of origins, of the immense sea that formed the land.
