The cultural programme at Centro Botín offers dance and theatre performances, film screenings, concerts, and literary sessions for all ages and audiences, spread across the year, which enrich the city’s cultural scene.
All the activities are designed to spark emotions and enhance creativity, seeking to enrich the personal development of their audience through each of the arts. For this reason, brief actions or conversations are introduced during the activities to explore the creative process with the artists and put into practice the emotional and creative skills of the participants.
It has been proven that music triggers physical, psychological and social changes. It alters our mood and behaviour, helping us to define our identity and relate to others.

The area of music is structured around two programmes: Classical music and Open music. The Classical music programme works on universal cultured music, both historical and contemporary, in chamber music format, performed by established and emerging musicians. The Open Music programme offers a taste of the current musical landscape with established and emerging musicians from Spain and abroad.
There are also concerts aimed at families and schools, with a brief explanation given beforehand. These sessions are participatory and fun, allowing the participants to develop their emotional and creative expression.

Centro Botín puts on all kinds of shows and productions: dance and theatre, circus, puppetry, theatre of objects, performance pieces, and a whole host of hybrids and fusions between these art forms, suitable for all ages and audiences.
Dance integrates body and mind, allowing us to communicate and express emotions without the need for words. Dance reduces stress and has been proven to facilitate the resolution of complex problems through movement, so it’s important to dance whenever you can, but especially to get moving when you are facing a new challenge. Dance helps us to see things differently, and that’s the first step in activating creativity and overcoming difficulties.

Theatre allows us to communicate complex ideas, sparks curiosity and fosters empathy. Acting promotes social skills, team-work, leadership, self-control, confidence and communication skills.

Cinema is the sum of all the arts, the natural space of imagination and fantasy. Cinema allows us to look at life, problems and everyday things in a different way… it provides us with the opportunity to experience and empathise with other realities. The more films you watch, the more complete your perspective will be.

Our cinema programme takes place mainly during the summer months on the outdoor screen of the amphitheatre, allowing the public to access free activities while enjoying art in the open air, in a natural setting framed by the Pereda Gardens and the bay of Santander. Our Outdoor Cinema shows a selection of films in their original version, preceded by a brief activity that encourages audiences to change their perspective and develop their creativity, followed by a discussion afterwards.
The Film and Creativity Showcase at Centro Botín is a competition for audiovisual creation open to fiction, documentary, experimental or animated short films that platform creativity in some way. It aims to alter the way audiences see and act through the emotions generated by cinema.
Finally, the Santander Film Festival, organised in partnership with Morena Films, takes place mainly at Centro Botín. This competition, which focuses on creativity, entrepreneurship and youth, offers a selection of the best Ibero-American films of the year and includes two official competition sections: Débuts and Infinite Cantabria.
Outside the summer season, there are also film screenings and workshops for families, including short films followed by a session to analyse their themes and language, stimulating children’s imagination and fostering a critical approach while developing their creativity through cinema.

Reading shines a light on new realities and enhances our imagination and empathy, as it allows us to experience the emotions of others and put ourselves in their shoes without compromising our own feelings.

We work on literature in collaboration with Cantabria’s network of libraries, which provide literary recommendations inspired by our exhibitions. These publications are made available to the public so that they can enjoy the exhibition more and their visit moves beyond the confines of the gallery.
In summer, Centro Botín sets up a Reading Spot in the Pereda Gardens with readings inspired by its exhibitions, proposals related to the arts, emotions and creativity, for both adults and children.
