Anna Moreno’s work destabilises our tendency toward nostalgia, offering a critique of the mystification we see today of the progressive (and architectural) utopias of the 1970s.

Plastic, Marble and Helicopters is a research-based work on Global Tools, a pioneering pedagogical project launched in 1972 by members of the “Italian radical design” movement, led by Ettore Sottsass, then art director at Poltronova, a designer furniture company.

Poltronova produced the modular sofa designed by Moreno for a performance at Florence’s Space Electronic nightclub, which in the 1970s served as an underground hub for Global Tools. In a further reference to Global Tools’ excursions into the Florentine countryside, Moreno and her team lived and worked together for four days in a villa in the Chianti region.
