Tino Sehgal is an internationally renowned artist known for creating artworks that center on the body, voice, and everyday social interactions. Tino draws on his studies in political economy in Berlin and dance at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen to create “constructed situations” — live encounters between visitors and the people enacting his work.
The artist eschews the production of material objects, favoring lived experience instead, and in doing so, demonstrates a refined sensitivity to classical considerations of form, composition, and space, rooted in the history of dance and Western sculptural and painterly traditions.
