This sculptural work originates from the green-patinated copper dome of the Anzeiger-Hochhaus, a landmark building in Hannover and a mythical site of editorial activity, whose basement saw the birth of magazines such as Der Stern and Der Spiegel. During the restoration of the building, Katinka was able to collect 150 of the 400 original plates that made up the dome.
The particular work consists of five of those copper plates, delicately suspended on metal wires stretched across the space, reminiscent of the way laundry is hung out to dry. The copper sheets retain the marks of time: traces of bomb impacts and their repairs, gradients of color shaped by east-west or north-south orientation, pollution, scratches left by generations of birds, and the dents of hailstorms.
