Twins, 2005 – in progress

At the principle of Twins is the notion of double, a recurring aspect of Carsten Höller’s artistic research. Double as same, double as illusion?

Double as perceptual shift? Twins perhaps best incarnate this state of doubt that may exist within the notion of the identical double. In 2005, Höller started a series of video pieces which consisted of staging two identical twins, each stating a different statement: “I always say the same of what you say”, while the other states: “I always say the opposite of what you say”. The work grows with new place where it is shown. In Santander, 9 pairs of twins are featured, each pair speaking in the language of their place of origin.
